How to Clear & Prevent Clogged Pores

Pores are those tiny holes on your skin where oil comes out to reach the surface. They have the tendency to become clogged if there are many dead skin cells and oil. Clogged pores on your forehead and other areas on your face will look larger than usual and feel bumpy. Without proper treatment, the situation could worsen and turn into acne, especially when the clogged pores become inflamed.

The good news is that there are many ways to clear and prevent clogged pores these days. Skin tightening treatment is one of the most effective, but you can also take steps to treat those pores at home. Here are some recommendations:

Switch to non-comedogenic products

Comedogenic products contain substances that can block your pores. The culprit can be anything, from your makeup to your favorite face cream to your daily sunscreen. You might want to check their ingredients to be sure. Reputable skincare and makeup brands label their goods appropriately, so you can easily tell if they are non-comedogenic or oil-free.

Don’t scratch or pick

It may be tempting to touch, pick, and scratch the clogged pores on your forehead, but doing so could only lead to more problems—like damage to your skin. It may even introduce bacteria to the skin and cause wounds that can get infected.

Choose a gentle cleanser

Your current cleanser may be too harsh on your skin. It might be a good idea to change into a gentler formula, preferably one that is pH-balanced. DMK Deep Pore Facial Cleanser is a great product that works to flush out any impurities from your skin. The non-stripping formulation works for oily, normal, and congested skin while working to tone and detoxify, and protect your skin.

You also have to make sure that you are cleansing the right way. Consider washing your face twice a day with warm water to avoid irritation and to effectively remove dead skin cells and excess oil. Wash your face gently and avoid scrubbing, as this could cause microtears that result in redness and draw more attention to your pores.

Exfoliate

Exfoliation aims to remove the dead skin cells from the surface of your skin. The right exfoliator can minimize the appearance and texture of clogged pores and effectively unblock them.

Exfoliators come in two forms: (1) mechanical, which lets you physically remove dead skin cells with a brush or cloth, and (2) chemical, which involves the use of a safe acid to dissolve the debris. Salicylic acid is one of the most widely used chemical exfoliants and it can also treat hyper-pigmentation, acne, and most common skin conditions. Just remember to apply sunscreen to protect your skin, as chemical exfoliants can make your skin extra sensitive to UV light.

Use retinol

People with large pores, ageing, and oily skin likely have less elastic skin, and that can lead to clogged pores on the forehead and other areas of the face. Retinol could help boost skin’s elasticity to minimize blockage. You can ask your dermatologist or skincare technician at DMK Skin for recommendations.
